Postponed: Trauma-Informed Approach For Doulas – 9am EST
March 21 @ 9:00 am - 4:00 pm
This event has been postponed. Future dates are TBD.
We are very sorry to share that we are postponing the Trauma-Informed training in Brooklyn on March 21-22 due to coronavirus concerns. While the likelihood of transmission is low, there are a number of reasons we think it’s important to postpone the trainings at this time.
- If just one exposure happens in the training, then all participants will have to self-isolate for two weeks, which would be a serious blow to their clients and families.
- The severity of the illness is unknown in pregnancy and this is the population that the workshop participants work with most closely.
We will fully refund all registrants and they will be given priority when the training is rescheduled. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out directly to firstname.lastname@example.org.
The training used by Los Angeles County’s African American Infant and Maternal Mortality Doula Project
Through a combination of focused lecture, exploratory discussions, personal reflection, writing, and role play, we will examine the holistic impact of interpersonal, community, and systems level trauma on birthing people.
We will explore the linkages between birthworker self-awareness and the ability to manage emotional intensity in preventing vicarious trauma and maintaining empathic client connection.
We will apply trauma-informed principles to the doula role in professional organizational scope of practice and case-based client scenarios.
While rooted in research and best practice guidelines, this workshop is practical at heart.
Participants will take away new perspectives, concrete strategies, and real time skills that will enable them to provide effective trauma-responsive client care.
3/21/20 9AM – 4PM, 3/22/20 9AM – 12PM EST
