Community Chat with Kamleh Shaban

Dr. Kamleh Shaban (she/her) MD is a child, adolescent, and adult psychiatrist living and working in Denver Colorado. As a second generation Palestinian American woman, she has recognized the interconnectedness of liberation struggles. Due to her levels of privilege, she’s often been the only minority in the space she occupies, which has created a lifelong passion for educating others, speaking up for those who are oppressed, and being a voice for those who are experiencing injustice. Recognizing the oppressive and imperialistic nature of medicine and psychiatry, she strives to understand her patients’ full stories, recognize how the system may be hurting them, and create a unique treatment plan through an antiracist lens. She teaches antiracist psychiatric care to other health providers and is committed to lifelong learning (and unlearning). Outside of work and activism, Kamleh refills her cup by spending time with her family, watching too much television, reading, and practicing traditional Palestinian cross stitch.
