Community Chat with Kagiso Nkosi

Kagiso Nkosi (he/him) is a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Johannesburg, in South Africa. Their interdisciplinary work explores healing, identity, and economic behavior within African communities. Rooted in the philosophical and ethical framework of Ubuntu, their research focuses on the psychological and communal dimensions of healing in postcolonial societies. With a focus on Ubuntu ethics of care as a relational moral framework rooted in the African philosophy  “I am because we are.”,  places the human being within a web of communal relationships, emphasizing interdependence, empathy, mutual responsibility, and restorative justice.

 Their scholarship bridges African philosophy, behavioral economics, decolonial theory, and speculative inquiry. Dr. Nkosi is deeply invested in advancing African cosmological thought as a framework for self-definition and liberation, exploring how ancestral logics, mythic consciousness, and spiritual continuity can reshape models of human flourishing, healing and self. Passionate about praxis, they are involved in community-based projects that seek to restore economic empowerment and ontological wellness through culturally grounded knowledge production.
