Community Chat with Dr. Bita Amani

Dr. Bita Amani (she/her) is a social epidemiologist whose teaching and research focus on the intersections of health, systems, and politics. Her work emphasizes how state-sanctioned disinvestment and violence create and sustain racial inequity through public health crises, as well as how public health both resists and perpetuates these injustices. She serves as an Associate Professor at Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science (CDU) and Chair of the Department of Urban Public Health (DUPH). At CDU, she has founded and led various initiatives, including the Cuban Health Exchange, the UCLA/CDU COVID-19 Racism and Equity Task Force, and the CDU Black Maternal Health Center of Excellence (BMHCE).
